Journalist Sajida Abu Asida documents in her report, “When the Screen Pulls Girls Away from the Family Table,” the impact of increased social media use on teenage girls, from social comparison and self-image to concentration, time management, and engagement with family life, drawing on the experiences of young girls and insights from a psychosocial support specialist.
The story is one of the outputs of the Independent Journalism Fellowship 2026, implemented by the Palestine Journalism Hub (PJH), with the participation of 20 journalists from across the West Bank.
The fellowship combines training, individual mentoring, and support for the production of independent journalistic stories that address community issues and provide greater space for people’s voices and experiences.
