Jenin – Journalist Ansam Sabaaneh documents in her report, “Strangers in Their Own Homeland: The Israeli Occupation Reshapes Jenin and Erases Its Spatial Memory,” the changes that have transformed Jenin as a result of Israeli bulldozing, demolitions, closures, checkpoints, and settlement expansion, altering the city’s familiar landscape and leaving residents feeling like strangers in their own city, while also affecting their daily and economic lives.
The story is one of the outputs of the Independent Journalism Fellowship 2026, implemented by the Palestine Journalism Hub (PJH), with the participation of 20 journalists from across the West Bank.
The fellowship combines training, individual mentoring, and support for the production of independent journalistic stories that address community issues and provide greater space for people’s voices and experiences.
