Ramallah – Palestinian journalist Shatha Hammad has published an investigative report titled “Why Do Workers Go to Their Death?” on Metras.
The investigation examines the circumstances driving Palestinian workers from the West Bank to risk their lives in attempts to reach their workplaces inside the 1948 territories, amid the loss of employment opportunities and mounting economic pressures. It draws on the testimonies and experiences of the workers, alongside data and relevant information, to document the risks they face and the economic realities that drive them to take such risks.
The investigation is one of the outputs of the Strengthening Independent Journalism and Media Networking in Palestine initiative, launched by the Palestine Journalism Hub with the support of the European Endowment for Democracy (EED). The initiative aims to enable journalists to produce high-quality professional content and strengthen collaboration with media organizations, helping expand publication opportunities and reach wider audiences, while supporting joint publication and building effective media networks that strengthen the presence and impact of independent journalism in Palestinian society.
