This investigative report addresses the serious issue of invalid and unsafe relief and food supplies reaching the Gaza Strip amid the unprecedented humanitarian crisis facing Palestinians as a result of the genocidal war and the ongoing blockade.

The investigation, prepared by journalist Mohammad Abu Shahmeh and published by Daraj Media, reveals through field testimonies, documents, and interviews with specialists and citizens that expired and unsafe food and relief items have reached some families in Gaza. It further highlights the severe health and humanitarian risks posed to Palestinians who rely heavily on humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs.

The investigation also examines the mechanisms overseeing humanitarian aid, the challenges facing inspection and monitoring processes under the exceptional conditions in Gaza, and the responsibilities of the various actors involved in relief and distribution operations.

This work underscores the importance of investigative journalism in exposing issues related to human rights and the right to safe food, while promoting transparency and accountability in the management and distribution of humanitarian aid, particularly during times of crises and disasters.

This investigation is part of the outputs of the “Strengthening Independent Journalism and Media Networking in Palestine” initiative, launched by the Palestine Journalism Hub with support from the European Endowment for Democracy (EED). The initiative aims to empower journalists to produce high-quality professional content, strengthen cooperation with media institutions, expand publication opportunities, and reach wider audiences. It also supports co-publishing and the development of effective media networks that enhance the presence and effectiveness of independent journalism in Palestinian society.
