Gaza – Palestine Journalism Hub (PJH) organized a training workshop attended by 28 journalists from across the Gaza Strip, including 20 women and 8 men, focusing on Solutions Journalism and innovative approaches to covering the issues, crises, and challenges facing communities. Rather than limiting reporting to problems, statistics, and humanitarian impacts, the workshop encouraged journalists to explore responses, initiatives, and practical efforts led by individuals and communities to strengthen resilience and sustain daily life despite ongoing challenges.
The workshop introduced Solutions Journalism as an approach that neither ignores crises nor minimizes their severity. Instead, it promotes deeper reporting by examining the root causes and consequences of problems while highlighting initiatives and experiences that seek to create positive change or provide practical responses to ongoing challenges.
Participants also explored methods for producing human-centered stories that showcase the experiences of individuals and community groups working to develop solutions or adapt to difficult circumstances. These include community initiatives, volunteer efforts, and personal experiences that contribute to supporting communities and sustaining life amid continuing crises.
The training further examined the broader impact of Solutions Journalism on society, emphasizing its role in strengthening hope and resilience by presenting inspiring examples that acknowledge suffering while highlighting community capacities, encouraging constructive public discussion about ways to address pressing challenges.
The workshop also addressed the accountability dimension of Solutions Journalism. By identifying gaps, questioning why problems persist, and highlighting unmet needs alongside possible responses, this approach can strengthen public accountability while reinforcing the media’s role as a tool for serving society.
The workshop forms part of Palestine Journalism Hub’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the capacities of Palestinian journalists and support the production of independent, professional journalism that delivers deeper, more impactful reporting, reflects the realities of Palestinian society, and amplifies the voices and initiatives working to create positive change despite ongoing challenges.
